About Dr. Julie O’Rourke
I have been a licensed psychologist in the State of New Jersey since 1998. I received a M.A. and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Boston College. My doctoral externships and internships included work in community mental health centers, inner-city schools, hospital based out-patient psychological services, in-patient adolescent mental health and substance abuse treatment centers and special education high school settings.
For twenty years, I worked in several independent and public schools consulting with administrators and teachers, assessing students, meeting with parents, facilitating educational programs and developing well-being initiatives encompassing the whole school community. As a private practitioner, I also consult with schools conducting workshops, participating in student centered educational and planning meetings as well as offering crisis support services.
Simultaneously, in my private practice over the past 20+ years, I have conducted psychotherapy, assessments and consultations as well as workshops and lectures in the community. My primary focus over the past 15 years has been assessments with children, adolescents and adults that examine different combinations of developmental, psychological, cognitive, educational and neurocognitive functioning.
My other professional interests include crisis intervention particularly in support of first responders. I am a member of the New Jersey-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team which is part of the federal Department of Health and Human Services. My family has been involved in dog rescue for decades and we have fostered more than 60 bullmastiffs over those years. I enjoy the outdoors, horseback riding, snowboarding, live music and a good book. My husband and I live in the area and we have two young adult children.
